Nine inventions recieved $3.7 million in the latest round of Commercialisation Australia funding.

Nine inventions will recieve $3.7 million in the latest round of Commercialisation Australia funding.

The inventions include three clean technology projects that could produce oil from recycled tyres, provide low-cost grey water treatment, and increase fuel efficiency in cars.

Five information and communications technology (ICT) inventions will also be supported through the grant funding, including a web platform that will help sporting organisations, and networking software to enhance online games.

Since its launch less than two years ago, Commercialisation Australia has assisted 154 innovators with funding of $61.6 million and expert advice from its national Case Manager network.

The environmentally sustainable, energy neutral process, will contribute to clean energy supply and reduce oil imports to Australia. Proof of Concept funding from Commercialisation Australia will allow construction of a commercial production module following a successful pilot plant trial proving the technology.
Aerofloat	310,957	Grey water re-cycling equipment	Aerofloat provides an innovative treatment solution for houseboat greywater waste on Australian inland waters. With funding from Commercialisation Australia, this project will develop and commercialise a larger model (using the existing proven and patented design) to penetrate new markets, namely the residential water reuse and industrial wastewater markets both nationally and overseas. Due to the systems mechanical simplicity and resulting affordability, there is significant interest in India to use the product to treat greywater for reuse in toilet flushing. This will assist the Indian Government in their current drive for water conservation and improvement of public health issues associated with water use.
Viocorp International	450,000	liveBOX	liveBOX aims to revolutionise live streaming, providing the capability to simultaneously stream multiple broadcasts to multiple devices in full HD. Current live webcasting is a service and not productised. It is also not scalable as more live webcasts require more equipment, with each location requiring additional specialised staff. Viocorp thrives on changing the problems of live webcasting in its current form. By productising live webcasting through liveBOX, Viocorp will enable its clients to run multiple, live, high quality webcasts from anywhere around the globe to any IP enabled device. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Viocorp International Pty Ltd engage an experienced executive and conduct Proof of Concept trials.
Learning Frameworks	127,877	Sports exchange platform	Learning Frameworks offers web-based services to improve the outcomes of self directed and mentored learning in an online environment. The project aims to integrate learning and knowledge capture and sharing to improve learning outcomes and grow the capacity of club-based (grassroots) sporting organisations. With funding support from Commercialisation Australia, Learning Frameworks will complete its software platform for the beta release of the world’s first Global Knowledge Exchange for sport.
Whispir	2,000,000	OpenWhispir cloud based engagement platform	Whispir (www.whispir.com) is an Australian technology leader, providing high availability, multi-channel communications software. Whispir has developed a new cloud-based platform, called OpenWhispir, that will enable organisations to more effectively engage with private and public communities to source information; execute plans and tasks; and build real-time situational awareness of an event as it unfolds. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable Whispir to complete development and commercialisation of the technology for launch of OpenWhispir in Australia, Europe and the USA.
Scalify	98,118	Peer-to-peer networking solution multiplayer online applications	Scalify Pty Ltd is a start-up company formed to commercialise networking technology developed by the NICTA research labs. The product uses a novel ‘peer to peer’ networking approach that enables publishers of online games to develop games that are more attractive to play, have better performance and lower operating costs. The Commercialisation Australia Proof of Concept funding will be used to conduct a commercial trial with a publisher of a very large online game, thereby demonstrating the commercial value of the technology to major game publishers.
Ino8	153,450	Oil Viscosity Energy Recovery System (OVER7)	Only around 20% of the fuel consumed drives a car forward, the remaining 80% is wasted as heat. Ino8 Pty Ltd has invented a very cost effective modification to an engine lubrication system that recovers wasted heat and reduces fuel consumption, emissions and engine wear. Proof of Concept funding from Commercialisation Australia will help to accelerate the market introduction with independent tests to quantify and optimise the benefits of this OVER7 invention with a small modern mass produced engine.
Clarinox	50,000	Innovative design environment for wireless electronics	Clarinox has developed an integrated approach to embedded systems development (wIDE) for use by the electronics industry in the creation of life-saving technologies, solutions for the world’s energy problems and making transportation systems safer. The goal is for wIDE to be the development environment of choice for developers of innovative new electronics devices. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable the company to engage industry experts to form an intellectual property strategy, and assist in the development of a commercialisation plan with emphasis on sales and marketing.
Ceridia	48,400	Clinical and business development of a novel drug improvement technology	Ceridia has developed a novel drug reformulation system which can be used to improve the performance of new and existing medications. Problems such as poor drug solubility can be improved by the system, which has the capability to make injectable only drugs suitable for oral administration. The ability to enhance new and existing medicines is expected to improve clinical outcomes for patients. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will be used to support planning in preparation for clinical development and equity investment.

Australian inventors are helping improve hospital bedside care, generate zero emissions electricity and keep senior Australians connected with their families and the community, by partnering with the Gillard Labor Government to get their innovative products into the marketplace.

Announcing almost $8 million in funding for 19 innovative Australian companies under the Government’s Commercialisation Australia program, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said the Government was working with innovators to turn research into reality and create a richer, greener and fairer country.

“This funding will help smart companies commercialise their products, delivering a wealth of benefits for Australians,” Senator Carr said.

“For example, Signostics Limited will use the funding to commercialise its new hand-held ultrasound device with the hope of getting it into medical centres around the country. This device could alleviate the need for patients to travel long distances to hospitals for this type of procedure.

“The funding will also help Metis Technologies commercialise its pollution control system for power generation and other industrial processes. This new technology will help industries transform to meet the needs of a clean energy future.”

Since it opened to applications in early 2010, Commercialisation Australia has awarded almost $58 million to 145 Australian companies, researchers and inventors. Funding offers range from $50,000 to $2 million.

Program participants can access a national network of 22 Case Managers, many of whom have built their own businesses and operated at senior levels in start-up and early stage companies across all industry sectors.

Ecobuild Solutions	Early Stage Commercialisation Grant 448,198	Commercialisation of EasyFix wall cladding installation system and associated products Ecobuild Solutions’ owns a patented installation system (“EasyFix”) which, together with its associated wall cladding products, provides great benefits to both new and existing homes/buildings. In order to prove the commercial viability of their innovation, Ecobuild Solutions now need to consolidate their patents, build “full building” prototypes locally, train new installers and prospective distributors, develop a robust sales and marketing infrastructure, follow-up overseas leads and secure a supply chain
CIMTECH	Experienced Executives Grant 200,000	Commercialisation of a novel skincare product line CIMTECH are aiming to commercialise a novel skincare product line based on the traditional medicine of the Cook Islands. Product development including formulation and marketing plans are required to successfully launch the product. CIMTECH requires an executive with experience in skincare and cosmetics to drive this product to market.
Metis Technologies	Skills and Knowledge + Experienced Executives Grants 250,000	High temperature fibre technology for custom engineered pollution control filtration Metis Technologies is commercialising advanced fibre technology for pollution control filtration for cleaner power generation and other industrial processes such as aluminium production and cement.
KNOG	Early Stage Commercialisation Grant 994,966	Urban cycle accessories for a global market KNOG is an Australian company designing and manufacturing unique bicycle accessories. They have developed a new range of innovative, cutting edge products spanning three categories. Release nationally and internationally is planned for 2012 and 2013. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help ensure a smooth transition of these innovative products to market, and provides KNOG with the tools to continue to lead the market through 2012 and 2013.
gT-Energy Technologies	Early Stage Commercialisation Grant 600,000	Next generation turbo-alternator heat engine power generator gT-Energy Technologies locally designs and manufactures heat engines for converting heat sources into electrical power using well proven closed loop thermodynamic cycles with zero emissions. Heat engines are required by a fast growing global market in waste heat recovery and renewable thermal energy that is serviced by few heat engine producers internationally. With funding from Commercialisation Australia, gT-Energy Technologies will develop heat engines employing fully integrated turbo-alternators that provide in excess of a 20% reduction in component pricing and significantly improved reliability when compared to existing products on the market.
New Media Innovation	Proof of Concept Grant 240,000	Multi-catalogue, a multi-channel (online and mobile) digital commerce ordering and cataloguing solution Multi-Catalogue is a Digital catalogue that will have uses in a wide variety of industries where catalogues are used by wholesalers/manufacturers to sell their goods by a mobile sales force to an increasingly mobile customer base. Multi-Catalogue is an innovative multi-channel / multi-access / multi-deployable / multi-branded software technology that will allow a catalogue of stock items to be visualised and made available for ordering not only on Web, Mobile and Tablet browsers but also via a Tablet Based client application allowing offline viewing of catalogue information and seamless synchronisation to the backend database. Signostics Limited	Early Stage Commercialisation Grant 1,965,803	Application specific handheld ultrasound platform Patients requiring a procedure which involves ultrasound must currently attend radiology centres or well resourced hospitals able to afford this expensive equipment. This leads to delays with performing procedures, which can potentially cause medical complications. Signostics Ltd has developed a low-cost handheld ultrasound device, adaptable to several clinical uses, for use in any medical centre or facility. Commercialisation Australia funding will help Signostics Ltd complete early stage commercialisation of its product.
Real Time Data	Skills and Knowledge + Proof of Concept Grants 280,000	Intuitive fisheries data recording and reporting system Real Time Data has developed Deckhand, an inexpensive, easy to use portable electronic logbook which enables commercial fishermen to record and report catch, effort and location data in real-time. Funding from CA will help with enhancing the existing software, including customising it for different fisheries. The system will be trialled in 3 fisheries to prove the concept to project partner, the Western Australian Fishing Industry Council (WAFIC). Funding will also assist with various aspects of commercialisation planning, in preparation for first sales of Deckhand.
Thereitis.com	Proof of Concept Grant 250,000	Thereitis.com business and consumer market readiness project Thereitis.com Pty Ltd has developed computer software which enables users of Internet applications such as social media and e-commerce, to find and sort data visually, faster than existing methods. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will be used to prove the technology to commercial partners and adapt the technology platform to capture a global consumer market.
Yackstar	Experienced Executives + Proof of Concept Grants 333,918	Yackstar – using internal social networks to improve employee engagement and business results Social media has forever changed the way people communicate at home. Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are now part of our daily routines. Enterprises now can use similar technology within their organization to communicate, collaborate and engage with their workforce. Yackstar is a secure, private enterprise social network that harnesses the social energy of employees. By encouraging people to share content, give recognition and feedback and form collaborative teams, Yackstar can improve productivity and employee engagement within a business. With assistance from Commercialisation Australia Yackstar will develop innovative case studies to show how social businesses are more productive and engaged with their workforces.
Shift Geophysics	Proof of Concept Grant 198,434	Development and commercialisation of an Unmanned Airborne Geophysical Platform Shift Geophysics proposes to commercialise a magnetometer and spectrometer system on an unmanned airborne platform. Shift Geophysics will use the grant funds to develop a stable slow moving platform that will integrate a forward looking sensor to drape the aircraft over terrain whilst recording a gradient magnetometer and spectrometer. Clients will receive a safe platform where harm to a pilot has been eliminated, data with a noise floor 10 times less and 9 times the resolution over competitors data producing an enhanced likelihood of detection of certain deposit types and attitude corrected three dimensional magnetic inverted data greatly improving drilling accuracy.
Sage Health Systems	Skills and Knowledge Grant 50,000	SmartWard – automated patient care system for improved care in hospital wards at lower cost Nurses on hospital wards still use handwritten notes to record patient details. SmartWard is a new computer system, comprising sophisticated software run on robust and sterilisable hardware, that will automate patient care and management at the patient bedside. Sage Health Systems will use the Commercialisation Australia skills and knowledge grant to independently test the system with clinicians and hospital administrators.
Built by Team 16	Skills and Knowledge Grant 16,160	DATE OR DUD’© – a pioneering online multi-platform speed dating comedy show ‘DATE OR DUD’TM is an Australian created, pioneering multiplatform comedy show that utilises social media in a way that will redefine expectations of web generated content. The core innovation is bringing together an enabled online video conferencing technology and new version of the speed dating entertainment format to create the first online speed dating comedy show of its kind.

Uniquest	Skills and Knowledge Grant 50,000	Red Bayberry commercialisation project Red Bayberry is a fruit grown in China that has extensive potential as a new fruit crop in Australia and other markets. The fruit is not currently grown in countries other than China. Researchers at The University of Queensland have selected elite varieties and have successfully grown these varieties in Queensland and Victoria. The Commercialisation Australia project will assist in defining optimal production and marketing strategies aimed at expanding the industry in Australia whilst also establishing Red Bayberry industries in other markets. The Commercialisation Australia project will also enhance propagation efficiencies to a stage where the industry can rapidly expand its production area.
Rytech Australia	Skills and Knowledge Grant 50,000	Wave Energy Conversion Device (WECD) Power generation is moving away from generation using traditional fossil fuels to generation systems with a cleaner and renewable energy focus. Rytech Australia Pty Ltd has developed a Wave Energy Conversion Device that converts ocean energy directly into zero emissions green electricity. Australians may soon benefit from a natural treatment for osteoarthritis, the improved management of Parkinson’s disease and a baby bottle that eliminates the need to carry separate formula containers, thanks to the Australian Government’s Commercialisation Australia program.

Thirteen companies will share $5 million under the Commercialisation Australia program and get help from highly-skilled case managers and volunteer business mentors, who will guide them through the various stages of commercialisation and build their business.

Announcing the successful projects, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said the Gillard Labor Government was partnering with Australian innovators through Commercialisation Australia because today’s great ideas will help deliver a richer, greener and healthier tomorrow.

Some of the success stories so far include Biotech company Immune System Therapeutics, who received $1.86 million in 2010 and has now successfully trialled a breakthrough antibody treatment for blood cancer. Biotech start up company NeuClone received $748,655 in 2010 and recently signed a licensing agreement with a major pharmaceuticals company in India.

Service company, Vitural Ark received $250,000 in 2010 and has been named a ‘Cool Vendor’ by leading IT research and advisory company, Gartner, for its management platform, which allows business applications to run on public and private cloud computing infrastructure.”

B-Pods	Proof of Concept$236,340	Tractile composite roofing: sustainable, lightweight, cyclone resistant, integrated solar energyTractile, developed by B-Pods , is an innovative interlocking roofing system that can be utilised across the building industry, from residential through to commercial, with a focus on being fast and easy to install. Made from lightweight and high strength composite materials, Tractile is engineered to withstand extreme weather conditions, insulate the building, and incorporate Solar++ technology that creates both electricity and hot water within each tile. B-Pods has also developed the KISSTile Solar ++ which integrates the solar technology into concrete roof tiles. Commercialisation Australia funding will be used to prove the concept that these products can be manufactured to meet the Australian Standards for roofing and within a marketable price band.
Court Record Solutions Group	Early Stage Commercialisation$419,640	Commercialisation of an online digital court audio and transcript production systemBrisbane based Court Record Solutions Group (CRSG) has developed CourtEx, a suite of software applications that allows courts of law to record, manage and publish court records quickly and easily online. CRSG software is a ground-breaking first in the legal technology space that will help court administrators around the world reduce production and management costs whilst improving access to justice. CourtEx streamlines the record production process to efficiently enable digital audio recordings, video and transcripts to be produced and published within hours, not weeks, as is the case today. Commercialisation Australia Funding will be used to refine CourtEx’s functionality, customise the product to meet the demands of the established United States and Australian justice markets, as well as addressing the needs of the growing international market and to enable CRSG to fully commercialise the product.
Qutbluebox	Proof of Concept$250,000	Immersive Interaction System: An Early Childhood Education and Entertainment Platformqutbluebox, the commercialisation company for the Queensland University of Technology, has developed a floor-based platform that allows children of all ages and abilities to interact with digital environments. The system uses a short-throw projector to project images onto a pressure sensor embedded floor mat, effectively turning the floor into a large, pressure sensitive computer screen. Utilised by a single participant, pairs and larger groups, the systems applications can be explorative, expressive, collaborative or competitive; and can be utilised for educational, entertainment or therapeutic purposes. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will to be used to finalise a number of the technical, operational, and application challenges associated with the integrated hardware and software components; and demonstrate the unit to a range of prospective buyers.
Marinova	Proof of Concept$249,964	Commercial validation of a new natural treatment for osteoarthritisTasmanian biotech company, Marinova, has developed a proprietary method of extracting fucoidan from a particular variety of seaweed, an active material long-recognised in Asian cultures for its health benefits. In an earlier Phase I/II human clinical trial, it was shown that this unique fucoidan compound is safely able to relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis to levels similar to those achieved by non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Commercialisation Australia funding will assist Marinova to validate fucoidan’s efficacy claims in the treatment of osteoarthritis using a commercially viable dose and enter the large and growing global joint health market.
Ingeneus	Proof of Concept$250,000	Integrated vitreoretinal surgery and laser platformOphthalmic vitreoretinal surgery is precise mechanical surgery on or around the retina performed through ports introduced into the eye and using a high powered microscope. Lasers are introduced independently during this surgery and are used to treat retinal detachments and tears on the retina. Ingeneus will use Commercialisation Australia Proof of Concept funding to demonstrate and trial a single integrated platform providing surgeons seamless transfer from mechanical surgery to laser surgery and visa versa.
Global Kinetics Corporation	Experienced Executives and Proof of Concept$439,625	The Parkinson’s KinetiGraph System for the management of Parkinson’s disease symptomsThe Parkinson’s KinetiGraph (PKG) System provides a unique solution for neurologists in the management of Parkinson’s disease symptoms. The Commercialisation Australia project is designed to attain commercial proof of concept for the PKG System by: validating the PKG System in the hands of neurologists; validating the business model from the perspective of payors in international markets; and providing further clinical data that will be used as a basis for application to governments and insurers for reimbursement for the PKG System reports and also to be used as pre-marketing amongst the global peer group.
Williames Tea	Proof of Concept$221,965	World’s First Selective Tea Harvesting MachineTraditionally tea is selectively hand-plucked. Tea estates around the world are demanding automation due to increasing costs and scarcity of labour. Williames Tea has developed technology which simulates the hand plucking method. Commercialisation Australia funding will help Williames Tea complete the development of the selective tea harvester and conduct proof-of-concept trials with a major tea producer in India.

This can be problematic in terms of accuracy of formula measurement – essential to optimal nutrition, ensuring the teat is sterile, it’s time consuming, often messy and frustrating when you have a hungry baby to feed. b.box for kids has developed a unique feeding system that integrates the formula dispenser into the bottle itself. Commercialisation Australia is investing over $13 million in new Australian inventions — including an influenza test kit for pandemics, a bioherbicide to counter an invasive weed and a livestock pest control system — to help turn them into the commercial success stories of the future.

Twenty-nine companies, entrepreneurs and inventors will share in government grants, being provided through the Government’s Commercialisation Australia program.

Announcing the government grants at the 2011 AusBiotech CEO Forum, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said turning good ideas into successful products in the market place was essential if Australia was to get full value from its scientific and research capabilities.

“This Government support of Commercialisation Australia gives firms the opportunity to capitalise on their good ideas, create opportunities for business and generate jobs that benefit Australians,” Senator Carr said.

“Getting a product into the marketplace requires a complex mix of technical understanding, market insight and financial resources. Through Commercialisation Australia, the Government helps companies, entrepreneurs and inventors navigate these processes and take-up opportunities.

“Last week, the Gillard Labor Government renewed its commitment for Commercialisation Australia, allocating $278 million over five years to the program. Commercialisation Australia will receive $82 million annually thereafter. Since it opened for business, Commercialisation Australia has invested $45 million in 115 projects.

Senator Carr said Australia’s biotech industry was a big winner through Commercialisation Australia, with more than 30 successful biotech-related applicants receiving grants totalling more than $13.1 million – almost 30 per cent of funding allocated so far.

“I congratulate government grant recipients and look forward to more companies, researchers and inventors joining the program,” Senator Carr said.

Aerogenesis Australia	$234,780	Finalise the Aerogenesis small wind turbine ready for market entry. The key components are: (1) scale-up of the turbine’s computer control system to 5kWs; and (2) design refinements to simplify manufacture and assembly of turbine components.
AiMedics	$1,938,000	AiMedics will conduct regulatory approval clinical studies of a monitoring system that reduces the risk of nocturnal hypoglycaemia.
Aussie Colours	$235,000	Funding will be used to scale up production of novel native plants and test and establish the “Aussie Cottage Collection” concept in Australian and international ornamental value chains.
Australian Phytofuel Company	$249,851	Australian PhytoFuel is establishing large plantations of Kalpa® trees on marginal land in collaboration with beef producers, local authorities, mining companies and indigenous land holders
BioHerbicides Australia	$50,000	BioHerbicides Australia will engage consulting services to assist it in registering a bioherbicide product with the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Authority for the control of Parkinsonia
Capture Plan	$250,000	CapturePlan has developed an indoor positioning system that tracks smart phones and customized tags for indoor locations in which GPS cannot operate.
Catchlog Trading	$324,599	With funding from Commercialisation Australia, CatchLog Trading will develop an add-on software module called “Company Analysis” for their existing software. The software is used by the international commercial fishing industry.
CSIRO – Cameron Begley	$215,000	With assistance from Commercialisation Australia CSIRO aims to validate a slow release delivery technology of enzyme bioremediation products to be used in moving water bodies to break down pesticide contamination. At the moment this technology has only been used in still water. This improved approach will open up new markets in irrigated agriculture from early-mid 2012.
Global Tech Corporation	$235,561	Undertaking a PoC project to successfully commercialise Globaltech’s ePLOD will introduce ‘real-time’ knowledge of running costs and ore targeting information relating to environmentally friendly, cheaper and more successful drilling programs.
Grassads	$177,989	GrassAds is developing robotic technology for marking out small to large surface graphic areas in a range of markets including sports and advertising, agriculture, manufacturing and construction.
Indice	$250,000	Indice’s project will provide established lighting manufacturers a control chip and reference design that offers dimming with energy efficient mains voltage (120 & 240V) lamps such as LED (Light emitting Diode).
MetalloTek	$210,000	MetalloTek’s soil remediation technology, developed at the University of Queensland, has the potential to be a low cost and effective tool for helping to rehabilitate metal-contaminated mine sites.
Nitero	$1,431,467	Nitero is developing an ultra-low power 60GHz chipset, based upon more than five years of research and development for next generation Wi-Fi solutions by National ICT Australia (NICTA).
OzStar Therapeutics	$49,772	OzStar Therapeutics is developing a new combination therapy for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. CA funding will be used to develop IP and commercialisation strategies, conduct market review and analysis and develop a business plan.
Polyactiva	$250,000	PolyActiva has developed a unique drug-polymer technology that can be used to produce new biomedical products and device components that enable delivery of drugs directly to the affected organ or treatment site.
RemarksPDF	$240,088	The ReMarks feedback management system is designed to improve the quality, quantity and timeliness of student assessment feedback whilst decreasing the workload of academics in marking student assessment. The project will plan and implement the commercialisation of the product from standalone trials to enterprise level deployments nationally and internationally.
Resis Australia	$164,325	Funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable Resis Australia to establish a pilot plant near Nambour, Queensland to produce commercial samples of shelf-stable food-grade functional natural cane juice. Scientific research has demonstrated the functional capability of this unique natural juice which is produced from innovative technology, that splits each part of the sugar cane plant into cleanly separated components of wax, external rind fibre, internal pith fibre and high purity natural juice. The value chain for target markets will be assessed to determine the final form, size and location of a full scale processing plant.
Respiro	$270,093	Respirio is developing a novel method for identifying people with Influenza infection, such as ‘Swine Flu’. The grant for which Respirio is applying is to prove the clinical accuracy of the test in a general practice setting.
Saron Education	$200,000	Traditional methods of parent-teacher-student communications are based on face-to-face communication styles. Saron Education Ltd (Saron) is developing the SEQTA product suite comprising Teachers Assistant and Coneqt, which once finalised, will enhance communication between parents, students and teachers by providing an interactive web-based mode of communication. SEQTA Coneqt will provide transportability of school work between home and school by enabling students to access information such as their timetable, lesson information, and assessment progress as well as view student notices and receive messages and much more. Saron will engage a Business Development Executive to assist in developing and delivering market strategies that will enable the company to capitalise on the value that has been created through the development of its unique intellectual property assets, being the company’s core software products: Teachers’ Assistant and Coneqt.
Sequencex	$48,480	The Organic Response project represents a revolution in smart lighting systems. By fundamentally changing the internal communication system used by lights, Organic Response is able to provide an energy efficient lighting system.
Softchill	$200,000	Softchill’s Life Cycle Plan Optimiser (LCP) optimises capital and maintenance expenditure in asset intensive industries. Softchill is forging new channels to market in partnership with IBM and resellers to launch the LCP
Veterinary Encapsulation Biosciences	$695,250	Smartvet has developed the VetCap® cattle pest control system. VetCap® combines the latest pour on treatment, paintball and soft capsule technologies to enable farmers to treat cattle for flies, lice and worms out in the field. VetCap® propels a large 10ml paintball capsule accurately up to 60m breaking open on contact and simultaneously releasing a measured dose of medication. The capsule does not rupture the skin and the medication is systemically absorbed into the animal and distributed without injury or undue stress. The estimated market opportunity for the technology is 80,000,000 doses per annum. By the end of the project, SmartVet expect to have complete product EPA registration with intent to formalise agreements to supply, manufacture, and market and distribute the VetCap® fly control product enabling early commercialisation of the delivery system.
Taggle Systems	$808,257	Water management and conservation is a growing issue in Australia and globally. Taggle Systems has developed a unique remote monitoring technology capable of providing cost effective Automated Meter Reading (AMR) for domestic water meters
Uniquest Pty Limited	$46,800	Research scientists at the University of Wollongong working collaboratively with a team at Monash in Melbourne (partners in the ARC Centre for Electromaterials Science) have developed a solar water splitting device that mimics photosynthesis.
University of Technology, Sydney	$50,000	Lachesis is a new platform technology capable of converting heart rate into accurate blood pressure and other vital signs, non-invasively and in real time. It can be delivered to a wide range of device configurations to suit different customers’ needs.
Urban Ecological Systems Australia	$1,910,000	UESA has negotiated three potential joint venture partnership opportunities pending the successful demonstration of a commercial-scale prototype of their already technically proven integrated vegetable and aquaculture production glasshouse. The project will show that the significant savings in cost of production, energy and water use of the system can be achieved at commercial scale, while maintaining a high level of environmental performance. The key steps are to build the commercial-scale prototype, fine tune the technology and trial processes in order to demonstrate commercial viability, and consolidate current expressions of interest from other potential
Curtin University of Technology (Professor Chun-Zhu Li)	$50,000	There is increasing interest in transitioning from traditional fossil fuel based systems to cleaner, more renewable options in today’s carbon constrained economy. Curtin University researcher Professor Chun-Zhu Li has developed a low-rank fuel gasification technology which can efficiently deliver sustainable, baseload power and help energy generators meet renewable energy targets in both direct and distributed power generation. This Skills and Knowledge project will involve building a strong business case comprising a product development plan, market analysis, intellectual property strategy, cost and pricing modelling and sales forecasts in order to help secure commercialisation partners.

Twenty one Australian inventions will be turned into commercial success stories, with the support of the Commercialisation Australia Program.

Over $10 million will be invested in the projects through Commercialisation Australia, the Australian Government’s flagship initiative for Australian entrepreneurs.

Announcing the successful applicants, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said he was pleased to help talented researchers and entrepreneurs capitalise on their good ideas.

In 2010, its first year of operation, Commercialisation Australia awarded a total of $33.6 million for 88 projects. See Round 3 recipients, Round 2 recipients and Round 1 recipients.

Descrete Australia	$248,520	Commercialisation Australia funding has been awarded to undertake laboratory testing and site trialling of Descrete’s cement additive to ensure compatibility with a US partner’s existing manufacturing infrastructure and local raw materials. A successful trial will lead to a Heads of Agreement in regards to ongoing supply of DP201, moving to a full commercial supply arrangement.
13 Find Aggregation Services	$888,459	13 Find is an innovative service connecting consumers and businesses across all main communication channels. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable 13 FIND to roll-out its service to Australia’s Eastern seaboard of Australia through the scaling of its proprietary technology platform.
Posse Holdings	$758,900	Posse Holdings has received Commercialisation Australia funding to undertake an early stage commercialisation project. Posse.com will build its web platform capacity, acquire content supply partners and conduct market research and tests in order to successfully launch the platform in Australia, the US & UK
Virtual Ark	$250,000	Virtual Ark is developing a management platform to enable the operation and management of enterprise level applications on public and private cloud computing infrastructure. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Virtual Ark to engage an experienced executive and conduct proof of concept trials.
Sangraal	$1,071,270	Sangraal has developed technology for manufacturing PET plastic bottles with a PET handle moulded into the bottle. For bottles in sizes of two litres and above, the PET Integral Handle Bottle offers significant improvement in consumer handling, process efficiency, cost effectiveness and end use recyclability against any alternative worldwide. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable Sangraal to engage an experienced executive.
Medivations	$150,000	Every year, tens of thousands of people die because of respiratory illnesses and chest infections. The usual method for self-clearing the lungs is to cough. However many people can’t cough effectively because they are, for example, vegetative, sedated, in pain or unconscious. Hospitals use suction to clear secretions, but the catheter cannot penetrate the lower airways, so only the uppermost lung is cleared. Medivations has developed the CoughStim which uses ultrasonic waves, applied externally to a patient’s neck to stimulate a cough reflex. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Medivations to prove the concept to the health and medical sector including regulators and potential commercial partners.
Locatrix International	$241,000	Locatrix International has developed a software platform which derives contextual information about a mobile phone user and uses the information to deliver data or services to a subscriber’s mobile phone. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help to support the development of the Locatrix Content Platform (LCP) and several pilot mobile applications.
Earth Sense	$239,500	Earth Sense has developed a user friendly GPS field mapping software program which allows for the rapid mapping of environmental and geological attributes and public assets, allowing the user to continue mapping while staying on the move on foot, in a 4-wheel drive, boat or aircraft. The software is applicable to industries such as mining, power supply, environmental management, local councils and other government bodies that require field mapping. Commercialisation Australia will help Earth Sense to undertake a proof of concept project for its software.
Euclideon	$1,984,652	Most 3D technology is created for computer games using (angular) polygons. Euclideon has developed what may prove a groundbreaking advance in 3D technology, creating a search algorithm that will result in 3D images with vastly higher geometry – while saving costs and offering greater portability between platforms. It will have benefits for architecture, games, mining the sciences and many other industries. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will support programmers to convert the system from PC to game consoles, mobile phones and other platforms.
Seasafe	$121,200	Seasafe has developed a self-contained manoverboard & lost-diver alarm, tracking and location system. The technology combines cutting edge engineering with advanced Radio Frequency signal tracking techniques. It immediately alerts vessel skippers/controllers of a Man-Overboard or Lost – Diver incident and continues to transmit the distress signal for up to 7 days. The technology allows for an instant response to marine emergencies at vessel level without unnecessarily invoking the services of traditional Search and Rescue authorities. Funding provided by Commercialisation Australia will help Seasafe engage an experienced executive to internationally commercialise and leverage its product.
Florey Neuroscience	$50,000	Neurodegenerative diseases caused by dementia are a massive burden on the community. Dr Siew Yeen Chai from the Florey Neuroscience Institute is on the way to developing and refining a new drug to treat learning and memory loss, especially in dementia patients. Funding assistance from Commercialisation Australia will facilitate collaboration between the Florey Neuroscience Institute and a biopharma company to further develop this work.
Termite Solutions Victoria	$50,000	Current construction methods require termite barriers and concrete expansion materials to be installed separately by different operators at different times which delays overall construction workflow. Termite Solutions Victoria has invented Greenzone, a termite barrier which integrates a compressible foam substrate with a termiticide, delivering significant savings in labour and materials. Funding provided by Commercialisation Australia will help Termite Solutions Victoria to commercialise its product.
Affinity Biosciences	$48,450	Encapsulated display (EcD) is a proprietary protein display platform capable of rapidly evolving custom proteins, and is applicable to fields as diverse as industrial enzyme production and the production of therapeutic antibodies. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will assist Affinity Biosciences to engage industry experts in business plan development and execution, identifying EcD’s optimal first implementation and potential commercial partners.
Agent Oriented Software	$235,000	The recent BP drilling rig disaster has heightened awareness of the need for intelligent, critical decision making drilling control systems that are not subject to human error. Agent Oriented Software has developed the Hydrate – Intelligent Watchdog (H-iWD) to assist and advise the operators of risks during oil drilling and extraction. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will enable Agent Oriented Software to develop a working prototype of the H-iWD.
Planet Innovation	$228,081	Planet Innovation has developed a hot water system with significantly increased efficiency through the use of solar heated air to assist in heating the water. The system utilises heat pumps that source their energy from solar heated air in roof cavities. This invention has a much lower carbon footprint than existing hot water systems, with a demonstrated reduction in energy use of up to 50%. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Planet Innovation to complete verification, preparation for manufacturing and commercial launch of the heat pump.
Advent Pharmaceuticals	$1,295,715	Advent Pharmaceuticals has developed a novel inhaler which can compete with proprietary products, to provide a lower priced alternative for governments, insurers and patients. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help take Advent’s novel inhaler ‘g60’ through late stage development and regulatory milestones to commercialisation.
Optimatics Solutions	$250,000	A problem plaguing water management is the cost effective movement of water from one place to another. Optimatics has produced optimisation software, the Water Supply System Optimisation Tool (WSS), to address the problem. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Optimatics Solutions to create a fully-functional software product ready for purchase by water utilities to help generate savings of 10% or more in operational and capital expenditure.
Alcidion Corporation	$1,475,910	Traditional hospital software has focused primarily on capturing data about patients but it does not provide real-time clinical decision-making capability. Alcidion Corporation has developed a new generation Intelligent Record (iR) that provides realtime clinical analysis to deliver high performance hospital services and health care. With the help of the system, care teams will be able to provide safer patient care, more quickly, at less cost. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Alcidion Corporation to commercialise the product.
AQ1 Systems	$235,000	AQ1 Systems has developed a shrimp feeding control system which matches shrimp appetite precisely with feed delivery. This system optimises growth and food utilisation, minimises the environmental impacts of shrimp farming and improves labour efficiency. Success will result in a market leading position in feeding control technology for the $25b global shrimp industry. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help AQ1 conduct proof of concept trials for the system.
300K Enterprises	$250,000	Outdoor lights on industrial sites and public street lights typically take 2-4 hours to replace, in addition to requiring power isolation and the risks associated with working at height for long hours. 300K Enterprises has developed new energy and labour saving light fittings for industrial and commercial use. The invention enables outdoor industrial lights to be replaced without switching off the power and can reduce replacement time to less than 30 minutes. These innovative lighting products will mean large savings in maintenance and operating costs, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and greatly improved safety for customers in industrial markets. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help 300K Enterprises to support the later stage development and commercialisation of the product.

IPscape	$825,000	IPscape has developed a ‘Cloud’ based contact centre management system. It enables organisations with temporary or limited contact centre requirements to set up very quickly and to pay only for the capacity they need. It enables rapid scaling for emergencies, natural disasters and seasonal campaigns and supports the employment of remote workers as call centre agents. The system allows organisations to ‘burst’ capacity (from the Cloud), use the technology immediately, switch seamlessly between voice, email, SMS and social media such as Twitter and pay for it all on per second usage. It will make contact centres more adaptable, so they can provide a much improved customer experience. The technology has the potential to make Australian call centres more competitive and to reverse the call centre employment trend offshore. Commercialisation Australia funding will assist IPscape to put in place the international partnerships and support arrangements necessary to become a global player in this market.
Fairlight Instruments	$200,900	Fairlight Instruments plans to bring to market a new class of music synthesiser (digital musical instrument) using leading-edge FPGA (field programmable gate array) chip technology with the benefits of software synthesisers displaying excellent functionality, upgradability and user interface with dedicated hardware instrument features of excellent reliability, sound quality and real time responsiveness. The new synthesiser will have a strong international export focus and the potential to diffuse FPGA technology and developed skill sets for application in a broad range of non music industry sectors. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help Fairlight Instruments construct a prototype.
HEARD Systems	$50,000	This project will commercially assess the potential medical device applications of HEARD Systems novel and patented sensor and bioamplifier circuit technology. These include ECG, EEG, and foetal/maternal monitoring applications. Commercialisation Australia funding will be used to develop a complete and ‘investable’ business plan for a spinout firm in the human medical device sector.
Neural Diagnostics	$497,280	Neural Diagnostics is developing EVestG, a technology with potential to enable diagnosis of many disorders that affect brain health, as well as to monitor the effectiveness of drug and physical treatments. Commercialisation Australia funding will help Neural Diagnostics validate biomarkers that distinguish between depression and bi-polar disorders within one hour, and to understand future market requirements.
New Vision Biotech	$250,000	Chondroitin Sulfate is a naturally occurring substance which is a major component of cartilage. It is essential for healthy joints in the human body. Diseases like osteoarthritis can lead to a gradual degeneration of the cartilage between the bone joints. Chondroitin Sulfate supplements are an anti inflammatory which can provide relief for osteoarthritis sufferers for these joints. New Vision Biotech will use Commercialisation Australia funding to test the commercial viability of an economical, natural, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly way to produce Chondroitin Sulphate using CSIRO developed technology.
Tilta Industries	$236,573	Tilta Industries is developing a mechanical system to quickly convert conventional tip trucks into dynamic emergency response vehicles capable of being deployed as fire fighting appliances, carry and relocate tanks, reposition emergency shelters and recover disabled vehicles. Tilta Industries is developing the skid based system in collaboration with fire-fighting agencies and local government. The Commercialisation Australia funds will help Tilta Industries verify that its proven tilt and tip technology can quickly and safely turn trucks into multi-purpose response units and allow the company to build a strong business model from a regional base.
VRT Innovations	$50,000	VRT Innovations has developed an infinitely variable transmission which allows an engine to operate at optimum revs, with the vehicle speed changing to suit driving conditions. The system can achieve infinite variability in forward and reverse gears without the need for a clutch. The founder of VRT Innovations, Steve Durnin, was the episode winner of The New Inventors (ABC TV) prize and The New Inventor’s People’s Choice award, and finalist in 2010 for his infinitely variable geared transmission (d-Drive). Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help VRT Innovations to commercialise the d-Drive.
NewAudio	$248,993	NewAudio has received funding from Commercialisation Australia to develop acoustic holography for global telepresence. Telepresence is an optic/acoustic communication technology that seeks to maximise effectiveness by enabling all participants to feel that they are physically present at a single ‘face-to-face’ meeting. NewAudio’s precise replication of originating threedimensional sound is a major step in telepresence achieving this objective.
ImmersaView	$249,072	ImmersaView are creating fully immersive 3D visual displays with significant cost benefit.. Once fully developed the technology could be used for flight simulators, medical simulations, training organisations and for sophisticated visual group communication. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help ImmersaView to refine its software and hardware to suit a range of applications and create a full production model.
Hypervibe	$144,750	Whole Body Vibration Machines use either pivotal or lineal motion to intensify exercise, forcing muscles to work harder. Hypervibe has built a machine that combines pivotal and lineal settings, which will benefit athletes, the elderly and the physically impaired. Commercialisation Australia funding will help Hypervibe enhance its business planning and management and validate the production pathway of its invention.
ZAG Beverages	$208,455	ZAG Beverages has developed a branded range of novel functional drinks made from naturally based ingredients with the potential to deliver real consumer. OSKI ® – Little Clever Drinks are naturally based with no caffeine, low in calories, and specially formulated to help consumers find a better way to consume functional drinks. Funding from Commercialisation Australia will help ZAG Beverages finalise the ingredients and formulations for a number of variants/consumer offerings, review the scientific literature to define the final ingredients, develop packaging and validate the manufacturing process.
Industrial Composite Contractors	$450,000	ICC has developed composites and processes which strengthen (Sitecure) and repair (Sitefusion) large scale steel and concrete structures affected by corrosion. ICC’s solutions will deliver improved durability, cost effectiveness and safety. Sitecure and Sitefusion will be of particular benefit to the oil and gas mining industries. With funding from Commercialisation Australia ICC will engage an experienced executive and undertake a proof of concept project to gain independent industry validation for the oil and gas and mining industries.

A new treatment for kidney disease, a robotic defence training system, specialised mining vehicles and stronger artificial joints are among 22 new commercialisation projects being supported by the Australian government grants.

Innovation, Industry, Science and Research Minister, Senator Kim Carr, today announced that 22 Australian researchers, individuals and businesses would share in government grants of over $8 million to help transform their projects into commercial successes.

Through Commercialisation Australia, the Australian Government helps our best and brightest local entrepreneurs identify and maximise their commercial opportunities.

The 22 Commercialisation Australia projects that were announced have the potential to deliver significant benefits to investors and consumers in a diverse range of industries, such as medicine, security, mining, and defence.

ACT	eWater Innovation	338,750	MUSIC Global – Stormwater Quality Management Tool for Overseas Markets	The project will test the global viability of the Australian Music stormwater quality modeling software and lay the foundation for the global release of other eWater products. The project will create a new Music Global product and new support processes. These will be tested through a proof of concept in the UK market. The project will engage an experienced executive who will apply their expertise in the Australian stormwater industry to develop and grow the UK market.
NSW	Marathon Robotics	450,000	All-Terrain Autonomous Robotic Target for Live-Fire Marksman	The project aims to build an all-terrain version of the robotic target for live-fire military training, to validate customer requirements and develop a commercialisation strategy. Our current product is a two-wheeled balancing target, used by the Australian Defence Force and being trialled by the US Marine Corps. The project will benefit Australia in terms of export earnings and create flow-on benefits for Australian specialist engineering companies.
QLD	Vardr	250,000	Remote Wi-Fi Surveillance System	Vardr’s Proof of Concept grant will be used to develop ultra low-power, wireless camera technology for potential use in a number of security applications.
QLD	Nano Silicon (Australia)	50,000	VLSI Silicon Wafer Circuit Design for High Speed Communications	Nano Silicon (Australia) is seeking to enhance their commercial position around their industry leading Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Silicon Wafer Circuit Design know-how. Their focus is on USB 3.0 and Display Port 1.1 industry standards. The project will engage industry expertise to assist in market research, business model development and IP strategy formulation. The project will engage industry expertise to assist in key steps towards maximising commercialisation returns from existing innovative intellectual property (IP): market research and strategy development, IP review and strategy development, management up-skilling, business model and plan development. This will determine and establish a solid foundation and roadmap to further commercialisation activities and identify additional required resources.
QLD	NuPlant	250,000	SmartClone: Enabling Robotics to Radically Transform Plant Tissue-Culture Operations	NuPlant’s SmartClone technology places handles on plantlets. This radical concept represents a paradigm shift in how the $1 billion tissue-culture industry manages plantlets. The SmartClone pod technology enables robotics to significantly improve production efficiencies and plantlet vigour. This project proves the commercial application of NuPlant’s “plantlet pods” and robotic system.
QLD	Queensland Clams	70,000	Sea-Ranched Surf Clams	The Proof of Concept project will trial aquaculture cultivation systems specifically adapted to two species of Queensland edible surf clams. The system will involve novel techniques for sea bed grow-out and harvesting.
QLD	CatchLog Trading	48,000	Electronic Logbook Software for the Global Fishing Industry	The CatchLog project will commercialise locally and internationally an onboard software program for commercial fishing vessels. The program combines vessel management applications and an electronic logbook reporting system in a single product. It delivers real time data direct to key fisheries stakeholders and management authorities. The program greatly reduces the paper compliance workload, improves vessel management and promotes sustainable fisheries management.
VIC	AquaGen	186,496	SurgeDrive Wave Energy Demo Unit on Lorne Pier	AquaGen is developing a groundbreaking new technology for harnessing the energy of the ocean’s waves to produce electricity or desalinated water. The Commercialisation Australia Project will enable the manufacture, installation and demonstration of the first pilot version of the patented SurgeDrive® system on Lorne Pier in Victoria
SA	Madeleine Pharmaceuticals	300,000	A Natural Heart Drug	Commercialisation Australia will assist Madeleine Pharmaceuticals to commercialise a drug to improve the treatment of heart failure patients. Based on a naturally occurring compound, the drug has the potential to benefit people suffering both short-term and long-term heart failure effects. The project will establish the commercial viability of the drug.
WA	Dimerix Bioscience	450,000	Diabetic Nephropathy Treatment Halting Kidney Failure	Diabetic nephropathy is the leading cause of kidney failure in Western societies. Through the use of Dimerix’s patented G-Protein Coupled Receptor assay technology, a novel therapy is being developed to halt the progression of the disease. Dimerix aims to finalise a proof of concept which will support plans to licence the product’s intellectual property to a global pharmaceutical company for advanced clinical development.
TAS	Specialised Vehicle Solutions	250,000	Underground Service Vehicle	The project will develop and field validate a demonstration service vehicle for the underground mining sector
ACT	QuintessenceLabs	1,220,000	2nd Generation Quantum Key Distribution System	Quintessence Labs have successfully demonstrated a prototype of their breakthrough 2nd generation quantum key distribution (QKD) system. The activities supported by the Commercialisation Australia grant focus on advancing this ultra-secure communications technology to full commercialisation. Market research and strengthening of senior personnel resources will accelerate entry to global markets and prepare the technology for volume production.
NSW	Biosceptre International	1,748,268	Biosceptre Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Test	Biosceptre will conduct clinical trials to demonstrate that its Prostate Cancer IHC (Immunohistochemistry) Diagnostic Test can detect clinically significant and clinically insignificant forms of the cancer, a huge unmet medical need that could significantly reduce the incidence of unnecessary early medical intervention and increase the chances of early detection. Results will be submitted to the FDA for a 510(k) clearance so that the product can be sold and marketed in the US, and ultimately globally.
NSW	Sonomedical	250,000	Sonomat HST System – easy, unobtrusive at home diagnostic device for sleep disordered breathing	The project is the delivery to market of the Sonomat HST System, the first and only home sleep testing device that does not need attachment of wires or sensors. It involves taking the product through the next stage of the commercialisation process, including reviewing the IP portfolio and establishing relationships with potential investors and distribution partners.
NSW	Advanced Anaesthesia Specialists (AAS)	250,000	The first “very small animal” veterinary re-breathing anaesthesia system for 3-12 kg patients	AAS will build production prototypes and then clinically validate:• the first-ever veterinary electronic anaesthetic agent vapouriser, • the first-ever veterinary electronic anaesthetic agent vapouriser, • the first-ever low-volume, low-back-pressure CO breathing gas scavenger, and 2 • the controlling anaesthesia monitoring and alarm system so as to enable AAS to go to market internationally with the first-ever monitored re-breathing anaesthesia system for very small animals (3-12kg).
NSW	Tricon Defence	136,000	Helicopter Emergency Release Operator	Helicopter Emergency Release Operator (HERO) is a life-saving device that will significantly improve the survival prospects for helicopter occupants/passengers in the event of a crash into the sea. A dual purpose restraint/release system, HERO automatically releases the occupant from their harness, effectively reducing the time taken for occupants to extricate themselves from a sinking helicopter.
VIC	Dr James A Broberg	50,000	Storage and delivery of multi-media content from the Cloud	Congestion and downtime on popular web sites due to excessive and unpredictable consumer demand is addressed by Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) that replicate content in numerous locations around the world. MetaCDN targets a major gap in this marketplace through sophisticated and economical “on-demand” use of existing cloud storage providers.
VIC	POD Orthotic	434,588	Revolutionary orthopaedic ‘Polymer Hinge System’ supersedes traditional mechanical joints	POD Orthotic’s proprietary Human Motion™ hinge utilizes Synthetic Ligaments™ to function like those in a human body, rather than traditional mechanical joints. Applying POD’s core technology to orthopaedic knee, elbow, ankle and wrist joint braces will improve the quality of life for end-users and generate significant exports through global retail and medical distribution channels.
VIC	Rheology Solutions	574,220	On-line Rheometer for Process Control	A rheometer measures the characteristic flow properties of liquids (e.g. viscosity and elasticity). This project will commercialise novel CSIRO technologies for an online process control rheometer that delivers real-time data and maintains better quality control for production processes. Key steps are construction of in-house facilities for rapid, iterative, applications-based developmental cycles, prototype and pre-production testing at industry partner sites, and user interface (software) development
QLD	QsSemiconductor Australia	462,000	Stored Charge Random Access Memory (QsRAM) a novel semi conductor memory technology with terabit memory capacity	Qs SemiconductorTM is developing QsRAMTM a high performance, Non-Volatile Random Access Memory (NVRAM). This project will enable the final cell structure and chip architecture as well as foundry interface to be established to deliver the technology to a manufacture-ready state.
WA	Saron Education Limited	84,402	SEQTA web based interactive educational software to reduce teacher workloads	SEQTA Coneqt is a web-based application giving teachers an easy-to-use vehicle for the delivery of course work, learning resources and other key information to students and parents via the internet. Saron Education’s proof of concept project will trial and validate SEQTA Coneqt, which will fully utilise the benefits of increased technology assets in schools, without creating any extra workload for teachers
WA	Secure Systems Limited	226,423	Secure Systems Limited Optima Range – Production Proof of Concept	Secure Systems has developed the Optima range of hardware-based secure portable execution and data storage products for high assurance applications. The range incorporates advanced encryption, strong access controls and trusted execution environments to enable secure remote and mobile computing. Secure Systems plans to undertake a proof of concept project to confirm the commercial viability of the Optima range in anticipation of its release to new and existing customers.

A new design for motorcycle safety helmets to reduce the risk of injury and the creation of light therapy glasses for the treatment of insomnia, jet lag and depression are among the bright new ideas to be supported by Commercialisation Australia.

Commercialisation Australia is the Australian Government’s primary source of assistance for businesses transforming their ideas into commercial realities.

Innovation Minister, Senator Kim Carr, today announced over $2.2 million in government grants for eleven new projects. This follows the $9.6 million in funding announced in April.

The government grants will support an impressive range of innovations from around Australia, including a new livestock management system, a faster and more accurate sepsis diagnosis test, and an innovative joining system for the manufacturing, building materials and construction industries.

“Increasing our focus on innovation, knowledge-based industries, and new business growth is the key to renewing and growing the Australian economy,” Senator Carr said.

“Commercialisation Australia helps bridge the gap between promising ideas and a commercially viable business, which will provide jobs, skills and prosperity.”

In addition to Commonwealth Australia funding, successful applicants will receive the support of a case manager to steer them through the commercialisation process. Case managers will also provide valuable connections to volunteer business mentors, who have direct experience of bringing new ideas to market and will provide helpful input based on specialist knowledge.

Navisens	$50,000	Self-contained human navigation for indoor and outdoor	Human location estimation using a body-worn sensor and associated algorithms and software to accurately locate a person indoors within a multi-level building or outdoors within a dense urban environment, with minimal or no supporting infrastructure. The technology has implications for the consumer, security, search and rescue, healthcare and military segments.
VOZ Corp	$50,000	Full face helmets with rear access	Voztec Helmet Technology incorporating rear access and safety release system provides users with protection at the point of impact and as importantly, for the first time, reduces the risk of injuries after an incident has occurred.
Kenneth Leslie Forge	$50,000	Revolutionary Wire Fencing System	The Commercialisation Australia Skills and Knowledge grant will be used to develop a commercialisation plan to establish production for the Australian market and secure the intellectual property of Lockpost Pty Ltd’s unique new wire fencing product. The Lockpost fence has the potential to revolutionise the way pastoral fences are erected in Australia and around the world, delivering significant time efficiencies while also reducing cost and improving safety.
Australian BioRefining	$272,261	Acid/ Metal Separation and Recovery Process	The project will establish a pilot plant using ABR’s patented technology, for the recovery and regeneration of acid used in nickel hydrometallurgy, and the concurrent recovery of metal values from the same process stream. The pilot plant will allow proof of commercial feasibilty, and will involve construction, deployment, operation and monitoring over 3 months, of a small pilot plant at an industrial site for the hydrometallurgical recovery of Nickel.
Crucible Carbon Pyrolysis	$685,099	Early Stage Commercialisation of the Crucible Carbon Pyrolysis	Taking the Crucible Carbon Pyrolysis technology to a ‘sales ready’ position, based on a production facility that demonstrates commercial scale operations for the conversion of timber industry biomass residues to gas suitable for generating on-site heat and power at wood processing plants.
Joinlox	$394,625	An innovative, rapid, mechanical joining and sealing system	Joinlox is an innovative, rapid, mechanical joining system gaining strong international acceptance in a range of industries and applications. The Joinlox joint can be designed into a product or application to deliver high-strength, sealed, serviceable joints that are faster and require lower costs and equipment to assemble or disassemble than traditional joining methods. Leading manufacturers adopting the beneficial technology include pipeline and pipe systems manufacturers, mineral processing and mining equipment manufacturers, building materials suppliers and manufacturers of tanks for storage and waste water treatment systems. The project will accelerate market penetration into the manufacturing, building materials and construction industries.
Athlomics	$250,000	Personalised SeptiCyte® monitoring of severe sepsis	Athlomics’ SeptiCyte® Lab product, a molecular biomarker-based sepsis diagnostic test, is faster (<3 hrs) and more accurate (85 to 95% performance) than all competitors. Athlomics now aims to evaluate its use in continuous patient monitoring. This could significantly improve market opportunity, patient surveillance and survival, and reduce antibiotic costs and hospital stays.
Re-Time	$20,200	Re-Time – bright light therapy glasses	The project will assist Re-Time Pty Ltd to commercialise light therapy glasses for the treatment of insomnia and related disorders, including jet lag and depression. The project will involve conducting a business case analysis and developing a commercialisation strategy
Thomas Banhazi	$50,000	Precision Livestock Management Systems	The project will help prepare an innovative animal production management system for commercialisation. The system will be based on technology developed by Associate Professor Thomas Banhazi through the Pork Cooperative Research Centre. The technology consists of software and hardware to automatically collect and analyse key production data, enabling optimal animal management. Use of the system will lead to production cost savings, with concurrent benefits of improved animal welfare and operator safety, as well as lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Virtual Observer	$130,700	API Development for Mobile Video Data POC	Virtual Observer’s core technology allows users to search by time and location to access video data captured by cameras on vehicles in a network. The software has application in public transit, security, asset monitoring applications and geospatial arenas. The project will see the addition of an experienced executive to assist with the company’s product development and commercialisation captured by cameras on vehicles in a network.
